Yes, friends, we have a release date. “There, I Said It” will drop that Tuesday the 20th of February, 2007, exactly three months after my birthday. It is being released by Cedar Creek Music / Thirty Tigers Distribution and Marketing. I couldn’t be happier with the way things are shaping up for it. For the first time in my life, I have the whole puzzle: funding, radio promo, press promo, distribution, marketing help, booking agent, label, and a damn good record if I say so myself, and I just did.

I’m playing the remaining dates I have in October, playing the one date I have with Will in Decatur November 18th at Eddie’s Attic, and otherwise I’m taking a break from the road for the rest of the year, to concentrate on the record-release day-to-dayness, get some rest, go to the Y, try to put on some weight and in general be in the best health I can be when this baby drops and it’s time to hit the road and work it, work it, work it.

Been up late writing liner notes. It’s that time for such things. Must get some shut-eye, more news and a new rant soon. Promise.

Cheers,
Tommy

New Rant Up with Song Included

My new rant deals with my wrestling how I can be a Christian and still spew the F-word and write happy, catchy tunes about school shootings at the same time. It includes a new song I just wrote for my Church’s Stephen Ministry program and of course at least a little bit of profanity.

Cheers,

TW

Tommy Womack Dot Com would like to apologize to the entire world for that last item. It was disgusting and bad and thoroughly disobedient, and please don’t bother phoning in because we know it was very tasteless. The person responsible, Tommy Womack, has been fired. We are pleased to introduce his replacement, Sean Cohen, president of the sole chapter of the Chicago-based Irish Jews of America. Sean is a former concert soundman who made his name for leaking the Linda McCartney “Hey Jude” bootleg. Mr. Cohen says “I am very pleased to be taking over at tommywomack.com, especially as I haven’t had a job in 16 years.” We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Greetings. I just played a fantastic house party in Paducah last night and I thank Annie Troutman for all she did to arrange that, along with her boyfriend David (who has a last name and I’m sure he and Annie both know it) and Amy Taylor Nolan, for their graciousness and hospitality.

Like I said, I made the fucking Church newsletter! Pastor John Collett’s Reflections column is this link. I just saw Mom today and she had a printout of it and she said she’d read it over and over again was so proud of me. I flicked a cigarette butt in her face and said “That’s great Mom, now get your 83-year-old bent-over ass out of that chair and onto that walker and go into the goddamn kitchen and make me a steak.” She did it too, after a couple whacks from my belt.

This coming weekend I’m starting off at noon Friday in Louisville appearing on WFPK’s “Live Lunch” show. There will be a live audience, so I hope if you’re in the Louavul area you can attend. Later that same evening I’ll be in Frankfort at the Coffee Tree Cafe doing not only a musical gig but a reading as well. I love doing readings anymore. I can’t believe I went so long without doing them. They’re a buzz. It adds such a cerebral air to a gig to do a reading as part of it. I feel like Mark Twain.

And then Saturday night I’ll be at the Bluegrass Brewing Company in St. Matthews, Louisville for a full and show! Don’t miss that. Unfortunately, the Sunday gig with Wilco didn’t work out. Dey don’t need no stinking opening acts, or some words to that effect, were transmitted to the promoter and from him to me. Such is life.

For more news, about how the Decatur Book Festival went and other happenings, I hope to rant tonight, so check back frequently to see if there’s a new rant up. That’s it for now.

Hope to see you Friday the 13th at the Exit/In in Nashville for the big Royal Court of China reunion show (I’ll be opening with a full band that night).

And on October 21st at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville with Todd By God Snider, with me and Molly Thomas opening up and also accompanying Todd on selected songs in and among his set, adding the occasional sonic drama to his inspired madness.

Oh, and about the kidney stones. They’re still there, I assume. I don’t feel anything. I’m sure I will…. Someday! Who cares, bring on the passage, ’cause I’ll be demanding the finest painkillers money can buy and I’ll be Elvis for as long as that rock travels down my urethra.

By the way, my dad, the late Rev. J.C. Womack had the record-setting sized kidney stone at the Regional Medical Center in Madiosnville, Kentucky. It was back in ‘85 or so. They let him take it home and I’ve seen and held it. It was about two inches long, three-quarters of a inch wide and looked like a smooth stone you might find on a rocky beach. I wonder if Mom knows where that stone is. I work at Vanderbilt with a jeweler who makes the amber earrings I’ve taken a liking to; she could make that stone into a helluva brooch. I can’t believe I’m writing about this.

Ciao!
