Sometimes podcast material just comes from Heaven. Larry Craig makes
this job too easy.

My lyrics about the Replacements are going into print to kick off a book about the legendary, drunken, balls-to-the-wall band we all loved way back when: the one, the only, the Replacements!
Dennis Pernus of MBI Publishing in St. Paul, MN is working with Minneapolis writer Jim Walsh to bring out “The Replacements: All Over But The Shouting: An Oral History”, to be released in November.
According to Dennis’s last e-mail to me (quoted here) my lyrics to the song “The Replacements”, which appeared on my 2002 Sideburn Records release, “Circus Town”, printed in their entirety, will lead off the introduction of the book. (”The Replacements” won the 2002 Nashville Scene Critics’ Poll for “Best Song”. I don’t know if it was truly the best song of that year, but longest? Yes, probably longest. Not many 8-minute ballads out there like there ought to be!
According to Dennis, this is what will lead off some of the other chapters… “PW’s “Pray for us” from the “Shit Hits the Fans” liner notes leads off Chapter 1; They Might Be Giants’ “We’re the Replacements” leads Chapter 2; Slim Dunlap’s unrecorded “Story Untold” leads Chapter 3; and the Legendary Jim Ruiz’s “Bobby Stinson’s Guitar” and an unrecorded Bob lyric lead Chapter 4.”
So that’s what I know. It’s about time someone wrote a book about the Replacements, and I’m jazzed that my lyrics will be so honored as to occupy such a special place in what is to doubtless be a special book.
There’s a new screed up, and be sure to scroll down and take in my latest and greatest scrodcast yet. My solemn vow to put my mouth on the President’s penis if that’s what it takes is garnering attention.
God bless,
Tommy
