The DADDY (Will Kimbrough & Tommy Womack, with John Deaderick, Paul Griffith and Dave Jacques) new record, “For A Second Time” is now available at all online outlets either as digital download or good old hard copy. Thanks to all who’ve made a tremendous noise about it. Everybody seems to like the record and, well, that’s the point isn’t it. Thanks to Grimey for having us in his store Tuesday to kick everything off. (And thanks to Tim Marks for subbing on bass.) And here’s a news flash: We have been invited to play the Americana Music Association festival 9/18.
The past DADDY weekend was a blast. And warm!
First, Thursday night Will and I had one of our best acoustic gigs ever opening for Todd Snider at the Levitt Shell (where Elvis once played) in Memphis. Then we played in his band and I looked out at the multitude going crazy and thought “THIS is what it’s all about.” Better yet, we stayed at the Hilton. I judge a hotel by how many pillows are on my bed, and whether everything works. I give the Hilton an A. It made me want to stay up late just to enjoy it longer.
Then we traveled to Jackson, MS for the Jubilee Jam for a full band DADDY show. It was a good gig, we got paid and, oh yeah, it was 105 degrees when we took the stage. I have just one suggestion for the next Jubilee Jam and I can boil it down to one word. September!
Then came the peak. Saturday night at the Basement in Nashville was the DADDY record release party and one of the best musical experiences of my life. There are nights when the music becomes like water, you lay back and just float on top of it. Will and I have taken to using just one microphone and both singing into just that one. It adds something. We went places as a band, stretched out, just jammed. It was as good as it gets.
People came from Washington State, Connecticut, Georgia, the Carolinas and elsewhere for the gig. The darn place was packed. I don’t remember what time I got home. It was somewhere around 1:30. Or 4.
This weekend is Friday in Evansville with Will and I as a Daddy duo, and then again Saturday afternoon in Midway, KY. Then Saturday night is in Frankfort with the whole Daddy band. We hope to see you there if you’re in driving distance. And even if you’re not.
Did I mention that DADDY’s new record, “For A Second Time” is now available? Well, it bears repeating, and thank you for your support.
God bless,
Tommy
PS,
Please keep Tim Krekel and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Happy DADDY Release Day!!! (A Day of Armenian Pride)

Well, it’s DADDY Release Day. That’s a traditional Armenian holiday when Daddies are released from all responsibilities including work and child care. The kid’s drowning? Forget about it. It’s DADDY Release Day; I’m not swimming out there to rescue him. You do it, honey, but get me a shot of ouzo first.
As it happens, my group DADDY (Will Kimbrough & Tommy Womack) is releasing a new CD today called “For A Second Time”. We chose this date of Tuesday, June 16 because of today’s Armenian holiday - obviously enough - (the whole band is Armenian) but today is also – coincidentally enough – the traditional day of the week when all records are released. Isn’t it funny how things work out just perfectly like that?
I’d like to send out a very special thanks to my manager Mary Sack who has become DADDY’s manager whether she wanted to or not, and has done an INCREDIBLE job with pre-releasing this record. I have never had a pre-release campaign with this much advance buzz in my life.
We just had a knockdown drag-out gig at Twangfest in St. Louis and are playing Grimey’s record store at 6 today.
Thursday we’re with Todd Snider in Memphis (Daddy Duo).
Friday we’re at the Jubilee Jam in Jackson, MS (Full Band).
Saturday we’re at the Basement in Nashville (Full Band). Get there early for that one if you want to get in.
Next weekend: Evansville, IN, Midway, KY and Frankfort, KY. DADDY loves it some Frankfort.
In closing I’d like to thank my dear friend and partner Will Kimbrough, whom I’m so privileged to play with on such a regular basis, and our core band members Dave Jacques, Paul Griffith and John Deaderick. And Tim Marks who has subbed for Dave and will indeed do that today.
And also thank you, the fans of the band who have supported us so staunchly. Especially you Armenians. We need to throw a traditional Armenian rock festival sometime. How I love the smell of yak turning on a spit wafting across the stage.
God bless,
Tommy
TOMMY’S IN LEADERSHIP MUSIC. TWANGFEST. DADDY DROPS TUESDAY.

Greetings faithful, I’m going to make this brief because I just drove home from a (great) gig in my hometown of Madisonville and it’s half past two. I’m a little crispy.
First… This is heavy. I’ve been accepted into the 2009-10 class of Leadership Music. It’s a 6-month program of seminars and retreats and it boasts the hoities of the toities. Gene Simmons was in last year’s class. Nashville Mayor Karl Dean is in this year’s class with me. This is big. One of the biggest things that’s ever happened to me, music biz wise.
It’s invitation-only. You have to be nominated by a current or past participant of the program. Then you get an invitation in the mail and an application to fill out and return (which I did on the last day of the deadline with about fifteen minutes to spare) and then you see if you’re accepted. I was. Kudos to homeboys Grimey, Rolff Zweip and John Allen who made this year’s class as well. I look forward to meeting a lot of cool people and learning a lot. I also plan to do acid at every single Leadership Music Function, wet myself publicly and never shake a single hand without my joy buzzer cocked and loaded.
For a good story on the program and what it’s about more, go to this link.
Now about DADDY! Yep, after the best pre-release build-up I’ve ever been a party to, DADDY’s second record, “For A Second Time” finally drops next Tuesday, June 16th. The full band is playing in Grimey’s at 6 PM that day. But before that, THIS weekend, we’ll be at Twangfest at the Duck Room in St. Louis Saturday night the 13th. Tomorrow afternoon is a big mailing party at the Kimbroughs’ house for all the pre-orders, of which there be a LOT thank you very much! Oh and you should see the one leaf-blower we sold. Well, you will see it soon if you frequent Byron’s in Pomeroy, Iowa. Let me tell you the DADDY Blow and Suck is one blinged-out leaf-blower. We’ve also hand-decorated some ties and plan to finish the rest of the necktie tie-in (sorry) orders tomorrow.
BUT BETWEEN THEN AND NOW, I have to put in five hours at Schotz Brewery with Lavergne and Shirley, so I think it’s Tommy nappy time now. Thank you all for your support of Daddy and thank you kind anonymous soul who nominated me for Leadership Music.
God bless,
Tommy
